2026 Summer Professional Training Programs

Paper Mill Playhouse’s Summer Professional Training Programs offer rigorous and joyful musical theater training for young performers ages 10–18. Designed for artists who are ready to deepen their skills and engage fully in a professional rehearsal and training process, these programs reflect the same artistic excellence that defines Paper Mill’s mainstage work.

As the recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award and a leading producing partner for Broadway, Paper Mill Playhouse is a place where American musical theater is celebrated, developed, and pushed forward. Our summer programs extend that legacy by training the next generation of theatre-makers in a supportive and challenging environment.

Program Overview

Paper Mill Playhouse offers two distinct summer training tracks. Young performers may audition to be considered for one or both programs; however, if accepted, placement will be for one program only.

Summer Musical Theater Conservatory

June 29 – August 1, 2026
(No classes on Thursday, July 3)

The Summer Musical Theater Conservatory is a five-week, full-day, immersive program designed for young artists ready to commit fully to intensive training and artistic growth.

Participants engage in demanding classes in:

  • Acting
  • Voice (both group and private voice sessions)
  • Dance
  • Audition technique
  • Ensemble collaboration
  • Special skills
  • Musical theater history

Training is led by professional coaches, directors, choreographers, and members of Paper Mill Playhouse’s mainstage creative team. The Conservatory culminates in the New Voices Concert. Due to planned construction at Paper Mill Playhouse, the 2026 New Voices Concert will be performed at an off-site venue, with location details to be announced.

Exclusivity Policy

Due to the rigorous and advanced nature of the program, young performers accepted into the Conservatory must make it their primary summer commitment. The pacing and expectations of the Conservatory mirror professional practice and require focused time not only during the training day, but also between sessions for preparation, reflection, and skill development. In addition, adequate rest and physical restoration are essential to support performers’ vocal health, stamina, and overall well-being. For these reasons, participation in other ongoing productions, camps, sports teams, or programs is not permitted during the session.

Musical Theater Technique Intensive

August 10 – August 21, 2026

The Musical Theater Technique Intensive is a half-day, two-week program focused on strengthening core performance skills without the rehearsal and performance demands of the Conservatory.

Artists concentrate on technique-based training in acting, voice, and dance in a structured, supportive environment.

No exclusivity commitment is required.
The Intensive does not culminate in a performance.
