Casting/Auditions
Paper Mill holds auditions on a show-by-show basis in New York City throughout the year. The audition notices with dates and location are posted on this website and in the usual professional publications such as Backstage and Playbill. We operate under the AEA COST Agreement (Tier 4) and hold required AEA calls accordingly. On large musicals, we are allotted a small number of non-union contracts. We see non-union performers at the Equity Principal Auditions and Equity Chorus Calls (time permitting), and occasionally hold “open” calls. We work with several NYC casting offices and the casting director for each individual production is listed on the audition notice with information regarding submissions. Please note that we do not accept video submissions nor do we provide housing due to our proximity to New York City where we audition and rehearse. Please direct any inquiries to Jen Bender, Associate Artistic Director: JBender@PaperMill.org.

Summer Internship
Beginning the summer of 2025, the theater is revising the structure of its intern program. Our education and outreach programs serve a wide range of talent levels and age groups, including children with developmental disabilities. Finalists will be invited to work on an assignment that matches their training and aspirations while also serving the theater’s programming needs.
Please complete this questionnaire which will collect information about your reasons for applying for an internship. If selected, it will help us understand where to best assign you across our various programs.
2025 Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Internship Questionnaire
We are seeking MFA/MA/BFA/BA interns ages 20+ who are studying or aspire to be stage directors, choreographers, music directors, voice coaches, stage managers, theater educators, special education teacher/aides, nurses or youth psychologists, and more. A full list of intern possibilities is listed on the questionnaire. HOWEVER, it is important to note that the theater has limited intern slots and is NOT seeking interns in all of these areas, but we will consider candidates with these goals.
Preference will go to Master program candidates or new professionals between the ages of 20-25. BFA or BA Performance students ages 20+ may be considered for limited general internships supervising students (company management).
Housing is not offered, and New Jersey residents are preferred. Reliable self-transportation is a must. Millburn has train service from NJ Transit. Interns will be paid the hourly seasonal minimum wage for New Jersey which is $16.13/hour and will be scheduled between 20-40 hours depending on their program assignment. Our summer programs have various start and end dates, but our summer session is generally defined as June 27 to Aug 22, 2025.
