Class FAQs

How are classes filled?

We fill classes on a first come first served basis.

What is your tuition and refund policy?

A $75 non-refundable deposit per student per class is required to reserve your spot.

All tuition must be paid in full by the date indicated upon registration. Tuition balances will be automatically billed to the credit card on file. Registrations with unpaid balances after this date will be canceled. Students must have paid in full to participate in class.

Cancellations & Refunds:

  • Before the first class: You’ll receive a refund minus the $75 deposit.
  • After the first or second class: You’ll receive a 50% refund of tuition.
  • After the third class: No refunds or credits are available.
Do you give make up classes?

Students taking voice lessons are given one (1) make up class at the end of the school year. Group classes do not have make ups.

What is your snow cancellation policy?

We will cancel classes due to snow or other inclement weather using our own discretion. The safety of Paper Mill Theater School students and faculty is our priority. You will be notified via Sawyer email and text message of cancellations.

Can I switch classes?

We will try to accommodate you within the first two (2) weeks of classes.

What is your child to teacher ratio?

Typically, there are 10-14 students to 1 teacher.

What is Children’s Theater on Tour and how can I sign up for it?

Children’s Theatre on Tour is an outreach component of our Theatre School. These classes tour productions to various local children’s hospitals, nursing homes and schools. Auditions are held each Spring for the following September. Students must complete a production class for ages 9 and up to be eligible to audition.

My child has taken part in many productions and has a lot of experience; can they still try out for Children’s Theater on Tour?

No, we ask that you complete the required courses with us before you audition for these classes.

Where are your classes held?

Classes are held in the Black Box Classroom at Paper Mill Playhouse, 22 Brookside Drive, Millburn, NJ or at Paper Mill Studios, 20 Main Street, Millburn, NJ.

How long are class sessions?

Typically, classes are an hour or an hour and a half long once a week.

Is there a show at the end of the session?

Please see class description. Production classes culminate in a show with sets and costumes.  For other classes, students perform either a showcase of class materials or what is called a “sharing” on the last day of class. These are informal classes where family and friends are invited to watch a typical class or watch a presentation.

How can my child audition for mainstage Paper Mill productions?
