Autism-Friendly Children's Theater PerformanceAutismRibbon

sensory friendly performanceAutism-Friendly Performances are designed and intended for families with children having autism or other developmental disabilities. This program is designed and planned in cooperation with Paper Mill Autism Advisory Team. At these performances the theater environment will be altered, providing a comfortable and judgment-free space that is welcoming for these families.

Autism-Friendly Performances are recommended for those families bringing a loved one having a developmental disability, and their teachers and advocates who are familiar with and accepting of behaviors exhibited by some children with autism.

Autism-Friendly accommodations Include:

  • Online resource materials: sequence book on PaperMill.org
  • BYO reinforcements and motivational systems
  • House lights on, but dimmed, inside the theater
  • Consistent sound level and lower volume
  • Kids are free to talk and to leave their seat
  • Show runs about one hour
  • Activity Area with Chill-Out zone provided
  • Gender-neutral family bathrooms
  • BYO snacks & drinks
  • On-site support teams

At some performances the audience will be video recorded and studied by professional behavior analysts to help provide future guests with the best possible experience. All recordings will remain confidential and will not be viewed by anyone other than the Paper Mill Autism Advisory Team and a select team of professionals.
